Taurus Reintroduces the 650 Revolver

Taurus reintroduces a budget-friendly wheelgun, that packs a punch!

Firearm enthusiasts, concealed carry aficionados, and revolver loyalists alike can rejoice at the reintroduction of the Taurus 650 .357 Magnum. This compact, 5-shot snub-nosed revolver is making waves with its combination of sleek design and dependable performance, perfect for everyday carry.

The Taurus 650 is engineered for effortless concealed carry. Its fully shrouded hammer ensures a snag-free draw, allowing for a smooth and reliable draw. The revolver’s sleek design minimizes its profile, reducing the risk of printing and maintaining discretion for those who carry daily.

Key to its functionality is the Double Action Only (DAO) trigger system. This feature, coupled with the internal hammer, offers smooth and reliable performance. It ensures dependable ignition, even on magnum primers, in high-stress situations—a crucial factor for self-defense scenarios.

The Taurus 650 also comes in Matte Black Stainless

The Taurus is a real no-frills, solid, everyday carry revolver that I feel will please any wheelgun conceal carry person out there. Especially at an MSRP under $490.

Chambered in .357 Magnum, the Taurus 650 also accepts .38 Special and .38 Special +P rounds, offering flexibility in ammunition choices. Whether you prioritize stopping power or reduced recoil, this revolver can adapt to your needs. Its 5-shot cylinder is fully compatible with a wide range of speedloaders and holsters designed for small-frame, 5-shot .357 Magnum revolvers, such as the Taurus 605. This compatibility ensures that current accessories integrate seamlessly with the Taurus 650.

The Taurus 650 can be purchased in matte black or matte stainless, and both color options come in two or three inch barrel choices.

The Taurus 650 is designed with the modern concealed carry lifestyle in mind. Its compact size and intuitive features cater to users who prioritize simplicity and reliability without compromising firepower. Whether for seasoned revolver enthusiasts or those new to concealed carry, this revolver is a solid choice for self-defense.

I tested the Taurus 650 using Aguila .357 Magnum JHP. The revolver performed flawlessly with zero malfunctions, which is expected from a revolver. I love the “thinness” of the 650, and it worked well with my Galco Combat Master Belt holster. Recoil is what one would expect from .357 Magnum. It was manageable, but for a novice shooter, it would take some getting used to. Groupings were 3-4 inches at 10 yards.

The Taurus 650 paired nicely with the Galco Combat Master holster

If I had to complain about something, I would love to see a little larger grip. The grip did seem to slide on me a bit. What I mean by this is it sort of gives the feeling of wanting to jump out of your hand. I feel like a little thicker grip and maybe one that rides a little higher would be an excellent option. The trigger was very heavy, as expected from a revolver. Probably not something I would want to go shoot all day long, but for accurate and reliable self-defense on a budget, this revolver fits the bill just fine.
