The Working Man’s 9mm: Taurus GX4 Carry

The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm handgun has rapidly emerged as a top choice for individuals seeking a reliable, concealable, and feature-rich firearm without breaking the bank. I’ve decided to dub this handgun “The Working Man’s Handgun,” the GX4 Carry combines affordability with performance, making it an ideal option for everyday carry.

For those who truly work with their hands for a living (mechanics, construction, or any other manual labor jobs) you need a firearm that is not only reliable but falls into a price range to where a little wear and scratches over time won’t hurt your feelings. The GX4 Carry fits that mold perfectly.

Taurus has long been recognized for producing quality firearms at accessible price points, and the GX4 Carry is no exception. With a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $515.99, this pistol offers features typically found in more expensive models. Its affordability does not compromise its performance.

Designed with concealed carry in mind, the GX4 Carry boasts a micro-compact frame that ensures minimal printing, even under light clothing. Its slim profile and lightweight design make it comfortable for all-day carry, catering to those who prioritize discretion without sacrificing firepower. The pistol’s dimensions are optimized to provide a balance between concealability and usability, ensuring it remains unobtrusive while still offering a firm grip and control.

The GX4 Carry’s side profile

The Taurus GX4 Carry is chambered in 9mm Luger and comes with a 15-round capacity, providing ample firepower in a compact package. It features a fixed front sight and a drift-adjustable rear sight, allowing for precise aiming adjustments. The pistol operates on a single-action-only (SAO) mechanism, delivering a consistent and crisp trigger pull.

One of my favorite features of the GX4 Carry is it’s magazine capacity. With a load of 15 rounds you are well-prepared.

One of the standout features of the GX4 Carry is its Taurus Optic Ready Option (T.O.R.O.), which allows users to easily mount a red dot sight for enhanced targeting. The model I tested was the TORO version. This adaptability is particularly beneficial for those who prefer optics over traditional iron sights. Although I’m not traditionally an optics on my carry gun type of guy, it is nice to have the option of doing so.

The pistol’s ergonomic design includes a flat-faced, serrated trigger for improved comfort and control, as well as reversible magazine release and signature indexing and recoil management pads. These features contribute to a user-friendly experience, accommodating both right and left-handed shooters. I was surprised at how well the small handgun fit into my hands. As a shooter, I have larger hands and the GX4 Carry grip seemed to embody the curvature of my grip almost perfectly.

In shooting the GX4 Carry I used a basic 9mm 115 Grain from Magtech. I figured since this was the “working man” gun, I wanted to keep the ammo cost to a minimum. Earlier in the year I was able to pick up 1000 rounds of the Magtech ammunition on an online special, and to this day it has not disappointed. The GX4 cycled the rounds effortlessly, running a quick 100 rounds downrange.

MagTech’s 9mm 115 grain FMJ ammunition ran well in the GX4 Carry

In shooting the GX4 Carry, I wasn’t looking for superior accuracy. All i wanted to do was hit center mass with every round at a distance of 10 yards or less. This was easily accomplished, and even after measuring my rapid fire groupings, the spread was only about 5-6 inches. I was super impressed with these results. In total I fired 250 rounds through the GX4 Carry. I had zero malfunctions, zero failures to feed and the slide locked back each time after the magazine was empty.

I carried the GX4 Carry in a beautiful Simply Rugged OWB Holster. For outside work, the OWB carry option is the most comfortable and the fastest access to the handgun.

The Taurus GX4 Carry 9mm stands out as a testament to Taurus’s commitment to providing high-quality firearms at accessible prices. Its combination of value, concealability, and a host of features typically reserved for higher-priced models makes it a compelling choice for those seeking a dependable everyday carry handgun. Whether you’re a seasoned firearm enthusiast or new to concealed carry, the GX4 Carry offers a balanced blend of performance and practicality, truly embodying the spirit of “The Working Man’s Handgun.”
